Podcasts
Here are some of my favorite podcasts on various topics
Mythology, folklore, and the paranormal
- Encyclopedia Mythica: an online encyclopedia on all thngs mythical.
- Nightbringer.se: a VERY detailed website about mythology. I haven't looked much beyond the King Arthur section, but it's my go-to when I need some obscure Arthurian character or name. I've linked to the older version of the site as the newer one is presently under construction.
- ObscUrban Legends Wiki: a wiki for the weird shit. Sam the Sanddown Clown, Martian Sasquatch, black stick men, the NASA Gargoyle, the Ghost Moose, and more.
- Völuspá.org: a website presenting the Prose and Poetic Eddas (and several other Norse texts) with parallel English and Old Norse text.
- Writing in Margins: an awesome site with tons of in-depth articles on folklore and fairy tales. I've found the breakdown of the Denham Tracts' infamous list of spirits especially useful and inspirational.
- Yokai.com: an illustrated database of ghosts, monsters, and spirits from Japanese folklore and mythology.
Miscellaneous
Here is an assortment of websites that I like, find useful, or belong to people I admire. As this list grows it may be split off into smaller lists by subject.
- Camp Explorer: a simple tool that lets you search Bandcamp using more than one tag at once. Useful if you're looking for some very specific recommendations.
- dontmesswithdinosaurs.com: the official website of award-winning palaeoartist and musician Brian Engh, aka The Historian Himself.
- DrawShield: a site that can generate a coat of arms from a stock assets based on a user-generated blazon. It also hase lots of information on heraldry. A great resource for students of heraldry, writers, and roleplayers, and ton of fun to mess around with.
- ♜ ☥ DUNGEON_SYNTH ☥ ♖: a really interesting Letterboxd list of low-budget fantasy and medieval-themed movies.
- HeavyNFLD: a news and review site dedicated to rock, punk, metal, dark ambient, and dungeon synth music from my home province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Kate Monk's Onomastikon: a list of names from around the world and throughout history. It's not a scholarly source but it's great if you need a name for a novel or role-playing game.
- Palaeolexicon: a dictionary of ancient languages, including some really obscure ones.
- The Pennsylvania Sumerian Dictionary: a Sumerian dictionary, naturally, from the University of Pennsylvania.
- RPGBOT: a very in-depth website about tabletop RPGs. While I don't tend to worry that much about character optimization, I do check out the D&D5e section from time to time to read up on subclasses I'm thinking of trying.
- Sadgrl.online: A great Neocities site with a lot of ideas and resources for novice website-builders. The starfield background used here, on the homepage, and the Halfling Rune page is from her site.
- Sci-Hub: A site for accessing scholarly articles. I don't use it a ton but when I do need to do a little research it can be invaluable.
- Wookieepedia: the ultimate Star Wars resource.
WEB RETRO
Old websites. Some of these are basically just here for me to keep track of them.
Nostalgic Websites
These are some websites I remember visiting as a kid. Hopefully they can bring you as much enjoyment as they brought me back in the day.
