- Tolkien Gateway, a wiki-style encyclopedia. Probably the best general reference site on the list.
- Elrond's Library @ The Council of Elrond: general information on Middle-earth, including an encyclopedia, articles, book summaries, tactics and weaponry, and Tolkien's poems, among others.
- The Encyclopedia of Arda, an expansive fan encyclopedia of Tolkien's Legendarium. Also includes a glossary, a lexicon of names, and an interactive chronicle and calendar.
- Henneth Annun Research Center: Essentially a fan encyclopedia, notable for its searchable Events Timeline. Formerly Henneth Annun Story Archvie before the stories were moved to AOOO.
- LOTR Project, includes a massive family tree, interactive map and timeline, various stastical infographics, etc.
Linguistic Resources
- Elvish Languages @ Ambar Eldaron, courses and dictionaries for Quenya and Sindarin.
- Parf Edhellen, a dictionary of a ton of Tolkien's languages at different stages of development.
- RealElvish.net, a collection of word lists, phrasebooks, and onomasticons for Quenya, Sindarin, Adunaic, Black Speech, and Old English geared toward roleplayers and fanfic writers. Also includes info on naming traditions of various cultures.
- Languages of Middle-earth @ The Council of Elrond, various resources for mostly Quenya and Sindarin; also includes an article on the Black Speech and an Elvish name database.
- Elvish @ Arwen-Undomiel.com, includes pronunciation, Elvish passages from the books and films, and real names translated to Elvish (that is, Sindarin).
Gaming in Middle-earth
- Middle-Earth for 5e @ Zero Hit Points, a fan-made conversion for Dungeons & Dragons 5e.
- Other Minds, the unofficial Middle-earth roleplaying magazine, with system-neutral content as well as MERP, LOTRRPG, TOR, AIME, and system conversians. Also hosts an archive of Other Hands, Iron Crown's official magazine for MERP.
- The Lord of the Rings RPG @ Darkshire.net, fansite primarily for Decipher's Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game. Includes a good article about the nature of magic in Middle-earth.
- The Fellowship Phase, a podcast dedicated to Cubicle 7's Adventures in Middle-Earth RPG.
- The Tolkien Computer Games Pages, info on dozens of old, obscure Tolkien-based computer games, including downloads for some.
- r/AIME, the Adventures in Middle-earth subreddit.

- Hall of Time Library, a roleplay site with subsites for various fictional settings and time periods, including The Shire of the Hobbits and two Hobbit restaurants called Tower of Mushrooms and Tastes of Arda.
- The Grey Havens, "The Ultimate J.R.R. Tolkien Resource Web Page". Not updated since 2007.
- The Council of Elrond, general fansite with news, fanworks, parodies, Middle-earth information, linguistic resources, and a forum.

- Lord of the Rings Fantasy World, fansite with character bios, biographical info on Tolkien, news, articles, image galleries, a forum, and a lot of plugs for online gambling. Seemingly last updated 2017.
- TheOneRing.net, the major LOTR fan news site
- Arwen-Undomiel.com, great fansite with character bios, Elvish language resources, games, movie info, image galleries, tips and tricks for webmasters, and a fantastic selection of early-mid 2000s forum avatars, banners and free site graphics, among other things.
- Arwen Stole the Stars, mostly image galleries of actors, also has animated "buddy icons" and cast bios.
- Planet Tolkien, a UK-based fansite with a Tolkien bio, a forum, and fanfiction "journals". Seems mostly dead.
- The Art of the Rings, "an artist's view of the Lord of the Rings". Analyzes still images from the films from a visual arts perspective.
- TolkienMovies.com, old movie news site. Also hosts a large image gallery, searchable and browsable by category.
- The Lord of the Rings Image Library: Image gallery from the films up to the trailers for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, searchable by film and characters.
- Pint Sized: The short-lived blog of a 14-year-old Texas girl from 2002 who's a big Tolkien fan. Just an interesting time capsule
- The Argonath: An expansive fansite with info on even minor background characters from the film, a wide array of !!!sound clips!!!, and !!!downloadable music videos!!!
- The Golden Wood: Wallpapers, avatars, and Winamp skins based on the movies.

- Henneth Annun Story Archvie Collection @ Archive of Our Own, collection of fanfiction formerly hosted at Henneth Annun Research Center.
- Ansereg, in addition to hosting Tyellas's essays also hosts their fanfiction and articles on fandom, as well as a fan art gallery.
- Elf on a Shelf: A humour site centred on an orc-run aromatherapy shop in Rivendell. Has image galleries, fan fiction, photoshops, animatons, and an odd "Kiss-an-Elf" feature that no longer appears to work.
