High in the snowy mountains of the north, the sinister Grimpses make their lairs. Spiteful and cantankerous at best and murderously violent at worst, Grimpses are the ancient enemies of the Whomsts who make their homes in the mountain valleys. In particular, they hate the festivals and celebrations of the Whomsts, which they view as mindless hedonism and noise-making. Indeed, though some keep domestic animals, the only beings the Grimpses seem to truly consider equal to themselves are hideous aberrations from what they call "the Plane of Peraphernalia". Grimpses jealously guard the arcane secrets required to access this dimension, and they open portals to this mind-shattering realm inside enormous war chariots when they make raids on Whomst settlements.
Physically, Grimpses are lanky and pot-bellied, with pear-shaped bodies, thin necks, wide-jowled muzzles and shaggy green, yellow, or grey fur. Though mainly solitary hunters and scavengers, they are clever, able to quickly adopt new technologies, and much stronger and tougher than their builds would suggest. The appearance of a Grimps is generally cause for alarm in any mountain settlement; very few Grimpses are recorded as ever having lived peacefully among other peoples.
